We are pleased to announce that Adolph Lombardi, Jr., MD has uploaded his video of a complete KineMatch PFR surgery to VuMedi. As you know, VuMedi is a very popular and highly trafficked video-sharing platform for medical professionals.
In this video Dr. Lombardi describes his KineMatch surgical technique in nice detail and comments on some of the many benefits of the patient-matched approach to patella-femoral arthroplasty. He also addresses two of the common questions / misconceptions about the CT-based patient-matched approach; that is the concern that customized approach simply matches a “deformed” trochlear shape and that the internal rotation of the articular surface is not properly addressed. He explains that both of these concerns are not valid because the customized shape of the bone fitting back-side of the implant is “decoupled” in the femoral component design process from the articular front-side of the device. In other words, the articular side of the KineMatch does not simply blindly replicate the shape of the native trochlea.
This video also does a great job of conveying just how fast and easy the KineMatch surgical procedure is accomplished. This of course is in marked contrast to the surgical procedure with “off-the-shelf” patella-femoral devices, which are much more difficult and time consuming to implant (even with the robotic assistance available with some systems) and do not consistently yield the fit and functional performance that KineMatch offers.

We should add that patient recovery with the CT-based KineMatch procedure is typically much faster because of the less invasive approach and the lack of femoral bone cuts and IM rods with our device. This makes it a great procedure for the outpatient setting. It should also be noted again that the bone sparing nature of KineMatch, versus off-the-shelf devices, facilitates conversion to a TKA should that be required down the road. You will note that Dr. Lombardi does this surgery without use of a tourniquet and also uses CarboJet to achieve improved cementation.
